The famous mansion in San Jose, CA; I've been there twice--a day tour on February 14, 1988, and a night tour on Friday the 13th, October, 2006, During the latter, Robyn and I were handed flashlights and entered the pitch-dark mansion. I had a film camera at the time which was useless in the dark and is why there aren't more photos. The mansion, built by the heiress of the Winchester Rifle fortune, was designed by spirits, for spirits, through séance sessions. Many peculiar things are found in the mansion--like staircases that ascend to the ceiling and rooms built inside rooms without doors; construction on the mansion was continuous until the death of Sarah on September 5, 1922. The mansion originally reached seven stories, but was partially destroyed during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, reducing it to four.
