Zozobra 2010

The 2010 edition of Zozobra--all decked out with blue hair and gold bow tie and cuffs.

The burning of Zozobra is the beginning of Fiesta Days in Santa Fe--this year commemorating the city's 400th anniversary.  These are the "early birds"--more are coming!

Annette is ready for the 50-foot puppet barbecue!   Just call her "Pyro".

Zozobra is getting his Zen on!  Trying to find that inner peace.

The full Fiesta Days crowd just minutes before Zozobra is condemned for execution.

Zozobra almost looks innocent ... or does he?

But, as in all the years that have gone before, Zozobra does not escape!

Fireworks and celebration as the last bits of Zozobra burn on the ground.

The fire dancers do their ritual at Old Man Gloom's feet.  Zozobra looks startled!
Zozobra is condemned and the flames start in his mouth!
Zozobra ... screaming ... is engulfed in flames!
 The 50-foot puppet collapses.
The ritual of casting out all the negativity for the upcoming year is over and the celebration begins with fireworks as the last remains of Zozobra burn.

The fire dancers enter the scene while Zozobra watches them.

The fire dancer dance around Zozobra as he grunts and moans.

It's at about this time that Zozobra begins to get scared!
 The fireworks also startle Zozobra.

And then the execution begins--the flames ignited in Zozobra's head.

Zozobra is flailing and screaming as the fire gets bigger!

The entire 50-foot puppet is in flames!
As the last bits of Old Man Gloom burn, fireworks are set off; the silohuette of a fireman monitoring the pyrotechnics can be seen
