  Franklin

Several miles south of Franklin is Susie Plantation--dating back from the Civil War and used as a hospital during that time.  The Susie is very haunted; it was empty when this photo was taken and remained for sale for the six years we lived in Morgan City.  Asking price:  only $127,000 with three acres of land!

My favorite bayou:  Bayou Teche--seen here in Franklin.

Pierre Part

There are two kinds of Cajuns:  The prairie Cajuns, and the swamp Cajuns.  The Pierre Part area is the home of the swamp Cajuns.  In this photo is Bayou Corne not far from Pierre Part.

Bayou Grand in the Pierre Part area.
Another look at Bayou Grand from the other side of the bridge.

The two great bayous of the region which the Cajuns settled were Bayou Teche, and this bayou, Bayou Lafourche.  This photo was taken near Thibodaux.

Houma

Bayou Black narrows and gets smaller as it nears the city of Houma in Terrebonne Parish.

An old drawbridge crossing a bayou near Houma.  The city was named after the Houma Indians--who don't have a reservation because their population no longer has a pure-enough bloodline to be classified as full Indians.

The famous Oak Alley located between St. Martinville and Catahoula.  This photo was taken in 1996.
