Fort Sumner

 Downtown Fort Sumner.

Looking the other direction from the previous photo.

The Old Fort Sumner Museum which claims to have the authentic gravesite of Billy the Kid.

A marker explaining all the times that Billy the Kid's headstone has been stolen.

 More good stuff to read.

Billy the Kid's grave is now covered by an iron cage.

The first time we visited Billy the Kid's grave was March 29, 2008.  The second time (when this photo was taken) was June 5, 2010.

Billy the Kid's grave is on the far right; he is buried with two friends.

The headstone with all of the particulars.  Note the fresh flowers.

A lighter exposure to help with reading the details.

Robyn kidding around while Gil takes a photograph of Billy the Kid's grave.  Photo taken June 5, 2010 on our return trip from New Orleans.

An interesting grave near Billy the Kid's--a hat is tied to the fence but I have no idea what the signicance is.

This little grave can bring tears to your eyes.

It was the end of Memorial Day week in June, 2010 when this photo was taken and (presumably) the museum provided some patriotic decorations.

A nice pastoral setting around the museum--hard to believe that this area is right in the middle of a desert!

Some of the things you can see while at the museum.

Another view of the historical marker.
